Please excuse my blog etiquette. I'm posting about Heartland...should I have done it below? In any case, just wanted to say I think it's a tad dismissive for a fellow who gets paid to write for TV to compare the prime time CBC show Heartland to Hanna Montana, The Suite Life and Life with Kevin even though he’s never actually watched a whole episode of aforementioned prime time CBC show and only “peeked in at part of one episode”. So, I'll take you up on your write some good stuff about Heartland and I’ll post it on my blog challenge, but first I have to go get a molar yanked out. I’ll write my Percocet abetted comments later, when physically able.
Come on, the Sarah Polley nom is delightful.
But delightful though it may be, her script does not contain the line "I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE" and therefore I cannot in good conscience mark it on my Oscar ballot, patriotic pull be damned.

You know what? You can think whatever the hell you want. I've tried twice now to accomodate and gone out of my way to be solicitous.
You think I'm being dismissive? Fine.
I don't watch family dramas. Never have. I wouldn't know a good family drama from a bad one. Never saw Avonlea. Never saw Wind at My Back. Never even watched all of Anne of Green Gables. It's not my thing. But just like Doctor Who back in the day at SPACE, I gotta say, Congrats -- even though I don't know Heartland, I've now decided I don't like it.
Because it seems to me that Heartland fans are a pain in the ass.
Juno will win, probably as a sort of consolation prize -- very often a quirky original screenplay will win while the film is snubbed in most other categories.
I'm happy for Sarah Polley but happiest for Ratatouille; animation writing deserves some love, especially since I have a feeling the eventual WGA contract will not include more representation for animation writers (I'd like to be wrong, but if anything was likely to be "taken off the table" it's that).
Oh, and berating bloggers for not writing enough about a show you like is a great, great way to gain recognition for it.
What, no Keira Knightley's Green Dress of Wonder nomination love here? It might not have put words on a page but, but ... it could have been a great excuse for a big pic.
While we're at it Denis, how come you don't write more about plumbing, European health care and professional wrestling?

I'm excited for the Polley nom, but I'd be happier if she'd gotten one for directing too.
pfft! "no country," all the way. although if p.t. reworked that last half hour, i'd have to say "blood".
tco yesterday and saw the 4-pack "Academy Award" movies. They had them separated into "Best Picture" "Best Actor" Best Actress" etc. Funny, I didn't see a "Best Screenplay" collection there...
I'm pleased as punch over all the love 'Juno' and 'Away From Her' have been getting. But where the hell is 'Eastern Promises'? It got all sorts of Golden Globe nominations, it's on a pile of top ten lists, but for the Oscars it gets a single acting nom? WTF?!?
Maybe they're just getting paranoid about the Canadian Invasion this year. Or maybe they still haven't wrapped their heads around the fact that "Horror Maven David Cronenberg" hasn't actually made a horror movie in over two decades.
And just so you know, next time a customer at the video store claims they hate Canadian movies, I am going to punch them in the mouth.
