Canadians, you have a chance to see Robson Arms, sprung for this one week from its Saturday night Gulag to follow that horrible song show with the warbling people and the mean man.The episode showing tonight also features SCTV demigod Joe Flaherty. But really, how many reasons to watch do you need?
This show falls squarely into the, "shows that people don't watch that prove the whole Canadians don't make good shows thing is bullshit."
9:30 p.m. Please do give it a go. Don't wait til it's sold to the USA three years from now to decide that, hey, you know what? It's good.

thanks for the reminder, denis. i might be overstating things but i think tonight's ratings will determine a number of the network's decisions on the future of the series... this season and beyond.
Sorry to be the confused twit here Dave, but what could the ratings tonight possibly determine for the network? I mean, you put damn near ANYTHING after Idol and you'll probably score a decent number. But unless network plans to leave it in this slot (in which case how much audience the show retains or loses would be important info), I don't what they could learn tonight that would influence decision making....especially since its going right back to Sat night after this evening - it makes no sense (maybe if a lot of audience follows it back to Saturday?).
Now if they'd paired it up with 'Corner Gas' on Mondays...THAT'd make sense to me.
that would make sense to me too, dix.
i won't pretend to understand the machinations of the lofty archons at CTV, but i do believe that the bottom line is: if the numbers don't move the show won't be renewed. whereas if the show gets some decent numbers tonight they might have to admit that it's a scheduling problem and not a content problem.
i think one of the things that excited the number people last time was that even though we were in an unenviable time slot first season (late night fridays) i believe we won the time slot for 18-35 year olds. although somebody might correct me on it i think that info's pretty close.
and though i'm excited about the placement after AI tonight, i wish i had your confidence about the ratings being a given. although it's on at 930pm in your time zone it's not on until 1030pm in mine.
i'm still chewing my nails and making sure everybody i know is watching tonight.
Not to hijack a post promoting the show (yes, everyone with a Neilsen box..watch!), but again, good numbers for a one time airing after Idol are going to occur. Count on it. But that wouldn't indicate a scheduling problem, would it? Again, I'm convinced they could schedule the Prairie Farm Report after Idol and get some decent numbers. And because they're not going to be able to plop it in after Idol every week, still not sure what they'd be learning. They'd need to try it in a consistent new slot (like Monday's at 7:30?) for several weeks to determine if its the show, or the timeslot...IMHO.
Not attacking here, just trying to figure it all out.
Like everything else when it comes to Canadian TV you have to read a bit between the lines.
As David said the remarkable thing about Robson Arms is that it managed to do way better than anyone expected in a Friday late night slot where -- and this is where the reading between lines comes in -- they expected it to fail. Because it's Friday night. You expect everything to fail late on a Friday night.
It didn't.
Jeff Ltd. got the post Idol slot last year and it was trumpeting its numbers -- if you go over to the Canadian TV site you'll see it still is. And you know what, good for Jeff for spinning like a dervish.
In a case like this, the numbers post Idol, you're right, are going to be big. And CTV can spin that they gave a post Idol berth to a Canadian show...see! We care! when the truth, of course, is that because of the simulcast they have very few options of what they could plug in there anyway.
I think the really meaningful number is not necessarily the fast national number of how many people watch, but the percentage of the Idol audience Robson holds, and the demos of the people who do watch. Again -- if it holds onto a lot of 18-35s, that is a positive thing.
I mean, a positive cynical thing.
A posical thing? cynicative? Are we at the point of inventing new compound words to describe the whole feckin mess yet?
Oh look, I said feckin. And there's the Irish pipe.
It's the Donnelly's poisoning, you see. I may be a goner.
Now there's the McGrath we all know and...well, at least...love.
