The current season's been hit or miss, much like the last two or three before it, but the show's definitely better than when it hit its creative nadir about five or six years ago; it's displaying a refreshing willingness to return to more challenging referential material (a recent episode playing off Michael Apted's 7 Up documentary series, for example - although the ep didn't quite follow through on the promise).
And although it's nowhere near the creative height of the seventh or eighth seasons, there's at least one or two episodes per season now that at least rank with the big guns of the series, so that's something.
For the last few years I've only watched the Halloween (Treehouse of Horror) episodes, hoping for excellence like "The Raven" to reoccur. Mostly when an episode comes on I watch through the couch gag and then switch away.
It's gotten to the point that when the opening music comes on, my wife and I replace "The Simpsons" by singing "The Couch Gaaag".
Oh, and Hi. I've been lurking long enough, saying to myself on occasion "I should ask a question..." or "I should comment..." that I finally got up the gumption to get an account and comment.

You should have stayed with it all along. Out of respect for seasons past. And with faith for the future.

Not about myself though. The Simpsons was so important to me at certain time in my life that I will always watch it.
And don't miss the faith part. I have faith that people that were once so good will be almost as good again.
