Well. This is interesting.
I liked Chris Rock. But I think about 100 million Americans who haven't heard of The Daily Show yet (Too Much Fox News) are going to see something really interesting. I might even watch this one live, not with one hand on the Fast Forward button on my PVR.
And the unexpected new Daily Show last night was like a warm bath. Sometimes I think I am a sad, sad man.

Helena,
Maybe he'd be more comfortable if he did the entire thing from behind a desk. Instead of presenters, they could have correspondants:
"Now, here's our Best Actor in a Motion Picture correspondants, Katerine Zeta-Jones and Steven Colbert."
Booyah!
And maybe we won't have to listen to winners make political statements, 'cause Stewart will have beaten them to it - and done it much better.
I like Erik's idea...
Even the "via satellite" thing would work...
ps,
I think live via satellite would be great. Especially if they did it so the presenters were "live via satellite" from the audience. Do the fake time delay and everything. Last year the producers of the Oscars decided that "from the audience to the stage" was too far to watch the "lesser" award winners walk, so they might as well milk that vast distance for some fake, on-location comedy.
