Folks bitched about Season One but they just didn't get how sly the show was (and is).
'Parks and Rec' is the first long-form lesbian love story ever aired on American TV. It's about Ann and Leslie realizing they're perfect for each other. Not just the ep where they butch Leslie up for the ball, nor the fake-date thing, nor the king/queen jokes tonight. Every single ep is the loveliest, most delicate little unrealized-love story on air. (Oscar and Andy on 'The Office' come in a perverse second place on this one.)
I'm sad the 'P&R' writers ditched the season-long politics arc of S1, but the new character depth has made it worthwhile. I worry they'll overuse Ron Swanson but the guy's so funny you kind of can't blame 'em.
Anyhow. When did it become funny? When they let it be what it is. Goddamn Willow/Tara without the magic spells. Amen!
