National Post Gives Across The River Some Love

HEY. NEAT. Across the River to Motor City was picked by The National Post as one of the Top 10 New TV Shows for fall.

Across the River is fun. The period detail -- hair, lingo, clothes, storefronts and interiors -- is keenly replicated. And rather than using the present to make the past look silly, the reverse seems to be happening (as when we see Ben's metrosexual son-in-law cooking dinner; or when we meet Windsor detectives Singh and Lewis).
David Fox, a veteran of Canadian theatre, is excellent as the old Ben Ford. He has a leathery toughness but is flustered by modernity, such as his daughter's house alarm. There's also a wonderful turn by Kerry McPherson as a wife who no longer gives a damn that her lousy bum of a husband is cheating on her. Plus the shots of the Ambassador Bridge are lovely.

And...

The plot is pleasantly confusing. There's a conspiracy slowing emerging that involves Cubans, the mob and JFK. The stewardess and everyone else on her flight crew seem simply to have been in the wrong place at the wrong time, their final flight having sat in Dallas at the time of the assassination.

I've never been so happy in my life to see the phrase "pleasantly confusing." Ah well. I wasn't in the edit man. I tried. Perhaps I should write Cliff's Notes? Nahh.
