IT IS A truly weird day in Toronto. It's like 15 or 16 degrees Celsius, so the months of snow have melted. And everywhere you look on the streets there is detritus: cigarette butts, stray gloves and mittens and scarves; used condoms and needles and juice boxes, baby clothes, matchbooks, gum wrappers, mummified dog poo and deposits of much larger, scarier substances. It's like Mother Nature got pimped out as a Crack Ho By Old Man Winter.
But as Winter ends, and Yankee TeeVee returns, the Canadian TeeVee season ends.
Last night's episode of The Border drew 665 000 viewers. So we started at 710 000 and crested and dipped and wowed and rose and fell. But a big core of you folk followed faithfully and for that we're grateful. It was also cool to read a couple articles around the finale that talked about how the show got better as the season progressed. We think so too. Thanks for your support.
Just because a couple people have asked, I guess there's no reason to not say it here: I'm back on The Border for a new season, which we're plotting and outlining right now. I'm pretty excited about my stories, and hope that Season Two will bring new twists for Kessler and Co, just as it seems poised to bring new twists in the political backdrop of the real world.
So as the filth emerges from the snow cocoon, the Canadian tv writer moves from complaining about the cold and utter lack of work to being hot and too busy to enjoy a summer of cottaging.
Maybe we should just wear hair shirts?
The Border returns with new episodes this fall.

Mittens and scarves are nothing. When the snow melts up here it reveals things like your neighbors.
Imagine two joggers having this conversation about all the stuff left behind when the snow melts suddenly. Then, as they run, they see BODY where a snow drift was yesterday.
Then the screen fades to black and the Law & Order music starts.
(Bah-boom, dut-dut-dut-dah-daaaa.)

But mayhaps you were looking for balance in setting up your excellent news? Congrats to you and the rest of the team! (I really gotta hit the *ahems* and get caught up sometime this decade...)
Glad to hear you're back with The Border. I've really grown to like the characters. (Especially the IT geek.)
